The Women’s History Coalition (The Coalition) was founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1986 by a group of women in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The primary purpose is to coordinate and promote Women's History Month, which is nationally celebrated each March. The Coalition has a multi-ethnic Board of Directors elected by its membership annually and all programs are accomplished by volunteers who have a common interest in preserving the history and contributions of women in South Florida. Members, community contributions and grants from the county and many community agencies support activities.

Welcome, Membership & Our Board

Welcome from the President

Dear Friends,

As we are closing out both the school year and the Women's History year, we look back on a year full of rich celebrations and great honors for women. Our March 1st Celebration of Julia Tuttle's life had a record turnout and special appearance from Mayor Tomas Regalado and the one and only, Roxy Bolton. On March 4th, we welcomed six new inductees into the Women of Impact circle. We are honored to have Maribel Balbin, Priscilla Dames Blake, Janice Powell Hopton, Susan Rubio Rivera, Stephanie Trump and Marie Paule Woodson join the class of 2012.

We would also like to personally invite the public and members of the Coalition to attend the Annual Meeting, which will be held on Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Women's Park, 10251 West Flagler St, at 10:00 a.m. We will wrap up our year at this event, and induct the 2012-2013 Officers and Board of the Women's History Coalition of Miami-Dade County, Inc. Please join us for this informative and joyous event.

Also, for those submitting nominations for the 3rd Edition of the Herstory book, please note that the deadline has been extended to December 3, 2012. But we suggest you use any down time this summer to get your resume and photo in for this special publication. If you go to our website you will find the process and address for submitting a resume and photo of your nominee. Click on the Herstory tab on top, and that will get you to the information.

It has been a please to serve as the President of this dedicated group of volunteers. I encourage you to get involved and to participate at the Board level as you learn so much and work with great leaders.

For women I remain,

Rhoda O. Shirley
President 2011-2012
